Universal Double USB Charger

After several weeks of heavy artillery, today I offer something on a lighter note. After months of searching I have finally found a really universal USB charger. Why do I consider this significant? Look. Depending on a trip, I usually take more than one USB powered gadget with me. I have a phone (Blackberry), mobile speakers (iHome IHM79), a mobile WiFi router (Huawei E5830), an eBook Reader (Kindle), a music player (iPod Nano) and sometimes a tablet (iPad). There are two fundamental reasons this one is like no other:
  1. It has two USB ports. I always have at least two USB powered gadgets with me. Or more. Having two ports I can spare another charger.
  2. It is the only one that charges all my gadgets. It had been a tough puzzle before. Because the Huawei router can only be charged with the Kindle charger. But the Kindle charger does not charge the iPad. And the iPad's charger does not charge the Blackberry. And both blackberry and Huawei have bulky and heavy chargers. Now there are no strange incompatibilities. This one charges them all.
Unfortunately it is only for European sockets. So, my dear friends on the other side of the Atlantic... I do not have such elegant solution for you. Yet...

Ah... by the way... the brand is Konig, the model is IPD-POWER40. Pick your search result: http://www.google.com/search?q=konig+ipd-power40. I bought mine at Leroy Merlin.

And while we are at the battery charging subject. The next step is wireless. There are some good news. In July there has been the Qi (pronounced Chi) standard set for wireless charging. Qi chargers will be based on a charging pad concept. It will be contactless. Just placing a Qi - compliant device, such as a mobile phone on a charging pad. While this will eliminate connectors, it is unlikely the Qi will meaningfully contribute to reduction of weight of a travel set. There will be a pad, accommodating one device at a time. The pad itself will need a cable and a wall charger. While this may be comfortable on a desk, travelers will likely continue to use optimized USB wired chargers. Micro USB quickly becomes the standard for connectors (Apple, do you hear?), further reducing the bulk of accessories carried with you.

  1. its such a problem. I like that device, I have a single output version

I have a stock of UK->European adapters, and Euro->UK. these help
I have a trailing flex multiple adapter, Euro for the wall, 4xUK on the floor for all the kit I buy in England, Sometimes I convert the UK back to Euro when I lack a socket
so its Poland -> UK -> and back to Poland. crazy

  2. Yes, I read you Richard... Often it feels the best universal plug would be two nails with bare wires attached to them...
